Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Brain Health

Omega 3 fatty acids are essential for normal brain function and development. Low levels of omega 3 fatty acids are associated with brain shrinkage, memory loss, declines in cognitive function and a great risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Studies have shown that in countries that consume the most fish, people have fewer cognition issues.

Wild fatty fish such as sardines, black cod, salmon, herring, mackerel and trout are the most potent sources of omega 3 fatty acids. Omega 3 fatty acids can be also found in plant sources such as flax, hemp and chia seeds, walnuts, and pasture-raised eggs.
