Why Does Voting Affect Your Health and Wellness?

Election Day in the United States on November 8, 2022. You’re probably thinking why am I mentioning election day when I always speak about health and wellness. Well just so you know, when you vote, you are voting for your health and wellness.

You are electing government officials that will make decisions on your behalf that will affect your health and wellness.

Government officials make decisions on a lot of things involving our health and wellness including Social Security, Medicare, healthcare, maternal healthcare, abortion, and legislation related to harmful agricultural practices and industry loopholes that pose a risk to our health and the health of our environment just to name a few.

On June 24, 2022 the Supreme court ruled in the Dobb vs Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. The decision on that case overturned the longstanding constitutional right to abortion and eliminated federal standards on abortion access that had been established by earlier decisions in the Roe vs Wade case. Going forward, it will be up each state to establish laws protecting or restricting abortion in the absence of a federal standard.  In simpler terms, you no longer have the right to choose an abortion federally speaking. They are essentially telling women what to do with their bodies.

Now there are many states that are criminalizing abortions and that is not ok. For instance, if you are a doctor and your patient needs an abortion for their life to be saved then the doctor is at risk of being put in jail due to state laws.

Also, there are many rheumatoid arthritis patients who use methotrexate to manage their arthritis but they are now being denied their medication because of this abortion ban.

All of these issues are on the ballot therefore it is very important to vote especially if you want things to change for the better.

Listen to the facts, read the literature, advocate for your rights and vote for your health and wellness.
