Eucalyptus Oil and its amazing health benefits
Health Benefits of Eucalyptus Oil
Eucalyptus oil comes from the leaves of the eucalyptus tree (Eucalyptus globulus) belonging to the Myrtle (Myrtaceae) family. Eucalyptus is native to Australia but is now grown worldwide.
Eucalyptus has medicinal healing properties. Eucalyptus is used in traditional Chinese Ayurvedic, Greek and European medicine. Traditionally, eucalyptus oil has been used as an antiseptic to kill germs, heal wounds and fungal infections. Tea made from the eucalyptus dried leaves was used to treat fevers.
Eucalyptus is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants help fight free radicals in the body and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
Inhaling eucalyptus oil may reduce pain due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown that people who underwent knee replacement surgery that inhaled eucalyptus oil dissolved in almond oil for 30 minutes daily showed a significant decrease in blood pressure levels and pain.
Eucalyptus oil may also help treat arthritis pain. Eucalyptus oil is a common ingredient in topical analgesic ointments to soothe painful joint pain.
Eucalyptus oil may also help treat cold, cough and congestion.
Eucalyptus oil may also be used as an insect repellent. Eucalyptus oil may also promote hair health. One study showed that applying eucalyptus and tea tree oil was effective in treating head lice.
Eucalyptus oil may also promote relaxation and reduce stress.
Eucalyptus oil may also promote dental health including dental plaque, cavities, gingivitis, bad breath and other dental infections.
Eucalyptus oil may also promote nail and skin health including jock itch, ringworm, athlete’s foot, and cold sores.
