Ways to improve your communication skills
Effective communications skills are an important skill that allows us to connect and understand one another. It helps build trust, respect and resolves any issues that we may have. Lacking communication skills may lead to conflict and frustration.
Here are some ways to improve your communication skills:
· Put away any distractions: Turn off all electronic devices
· Be aware of your non-verbal communication such as body language: Having your arms folded automatically shows that you are closed off into hearing what the other person is communicating to you. Unfold your arms, be open and show eye contact to let the other person know that you are engaged and listening to them.
· Cater to your audience: Make sure your message is reaching your specific audience.
· Use your empathy skills: Be open-minded. It will give you a better understanding of the other person’s point of view.
· Listen: Be patient and listen closely. Ask to repeat anything that you did not comprehend.
· Respect: Be respectful to other people’s opinions and also expect that in return. Be kind and speak clearly. There is no need to yell and scream unnecessarily.
Always remember to think before you speak!
