Parsley is a powerful herb.

Health Benefits of Parsley

Parsley also known as garden parsley (Petroselinum crispum) is a flowering herb that belongs to the apiaceae family. Parsley is native to the Mediterranean region.  Parsley has medicinal and culinary uses and is commonly used in European, Middle Eastern and American cuisines.

Parsley is nutrient dense containing essential vitamins and minerals including vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, calcium, magnesium and potassium.

Parsley has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.

Parsley is rich in antioxidants including carotenoids and flavonoids. Antioxidants help fight free radicals in the body and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Parsley may also promote heart health due to its folate content.

Parsley may protect eye health and reduce the risk of certain age-related eye conditions such as AMD. The carotenoids that parsley contains: lutein, beta carotene and zeaxanthin may help promote healthy eye vision.

Parsley may also improve bone health due its vitamin K content. Low levels of vitamin K are associated with a higher risk of bone fracture. Studies have shown that subjects with the highest levels of vitamin K experienced 22% fewer fractures than those with low levels. Ten sprigs of parsley are enough to reach the recommended daily intake of vitamin K.

Parsley works as a powerful natural diuretic and may help reduce bloating. Parsley may also help maintain healthy blood pressure level and manage diabetes.

Parsley may also have anti-cancer properties. Parsley may also boost your immunity and improve kidney health.

Parsley may also promote digestive health.

Parsley may interact with certain medications.

As always consult with your physician.
