What You Should Eat to Prevent Urinary Tract Infections? 

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection in any part of your urinary system (kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra). UTI is one of the most commonly diagnosed infections in both hospitalized and community-dwelling older adults. Women are at a greater risk developing UTI than men. 

Pathogenic bacteria thrive in a high sugar environment. Ditching sugar in all of its form can help prevent urinary tract infections. This includes carbs that break down quickly into sugar such as pasta, bread, white rice, crackers, bananas, flour, and most types of juice. Drinking plenty of water and taking probiotic supplements also help flush out the bad bacteria. 

Cranberries prevent bacteria from sticking to the bladder which is why drinking cranberry juice can help prevent and sometimes treat urinary tract infections especially in the early stages. Avoid cranberry juice with added sugar or any mixed with other fruit juices. Consuming blueberries can also help since it’s a close relative to cranberries.
