Using the 5 to 1 Rule Method to buy healthier whole grain products
The 5 to 1 rule is a method used when buying healthier whole grain products. You have to look at the Nutrition Facts label on the package and see if the ratio of grams of carbohydrates to grams of dietary fiber is five or less.
For instance, 100% whole wheat Store Bread on its package has 30g of carbohydrates and 3 grams of fiber. Thirty divided by three is 10.
Since the outcome, 10, is more than 5 that means it didn’t pass the healthy test so the 100% Store Bread goes back onto the shelf.
Use this method every time when you are looking to buy healthier whole grains.
