Health Benefits of Radishes

Radishes are root vegetables with a pungent taste belonging to the Brassica family that includes cabbage and mustard greens that was domesticated in Asia prior to Roman times. The root of the radish is related to kale, broccoli, turnips and cauliflower.

Radishes are rich in vitamins and minerals including, potassium, calcium, sodium, vitamin C, folate, vitamin B6 and manganese.  

Radishes have anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and antioxidant properties.  

Radishes may improve your digestive health. Studies have shown that radish juice may also prevent gastric ulcers by protecting gastric tissue and strengthening the mucosal barrier preventing inflammation.   

Radishes are also rich in fiber which may help relieve constipation symptoms. Due to radishes high fiber content, it may also help manage blood sugar levels, promote weight loss and lower cholesterol levels.

Radishes are also a good source of natural nitrates that help improve blood flow.

Radishes may also help detoxify the body and improve liver function.  

Radishes may also reduce the risk of cancer. Cruciferous vegetables are rich in cancer fighting compounds such as glucosinolates, sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol. Studies have shown that these compounds help lower the risk of cancer.
