Papaya, also known as carica papaya or lechosa is a tropical fruit native to Southern Mexico and Central America but now grown in other parts of the world.
Papaya contains essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Papaya contains 157% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin C, 33% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin A, 14$ of the recommended daily intake of folate and 11% of the recommended daily intake of potassium. Papaya also contains calcium, magnesium, vitamin B1, vitamin B3, vitamin B5, vitamin E and vitamin K.
Papaya is rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants help fight free radicals in the body and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
Papaya contains two enzymes called papain and chymopapain that may help with digestion and reduce inflammation.
