Orange, also known as sweet orange (citrus x sinensis) is a hybrid between the pomelo (citrus maxima) and the mandarin orange (citrus reticulata). The orange originated in southern China, Northeast India and Myanmar thousands of years ago but are now grown worldwide. There are several types of oranges including navel, mandarin, blood oranges, Valencia, seville, and Jaffa.

Oranges have anti-inflammatory properties.

Oranges are rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants help fight free radicals in the body and may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

Oranges contain essential vitamins and minerals including thiamine, folate, calcium, choline, potassium. Oranges have a high water content. Oranges also contain 92% of the recommended daily value of Vitamin C which enhances iron absorption in the body and may help prevent anemia.  Oranges may also help boost your immunity.

Oranges are also rich in fiber which may help prevent type 2 diabetes, regulate blood sugar levels, improve digestion and promote weight loss.

Oranges may promote heart health and lower bad cholesterol levels due to its fiber and potassium content. 1 glass of orange juice can provide 14% of the daily recommended value of potassium and 10% of the recommended daily value of fiber.

Oranges may also promote skin health, collagen production, wound healing and elasticity due to its high vitamin C content.

Oranges may also help prevent cancer. Studies have shown that consuming citrus fruits may help reduce the risk of lung, mouth, stomach, head and neck cancer.

If you are allergic to oranges then please do not consume.

If you have gastro-esophageal reflux disease may increase symptoms such as heartburn and regurgitation when consuming citrus fruits due to its high acidity content.
