Health Benefits of Cumin

Cumin (Cuminum cyminum) is dried seed and aromatic spice from the Cuminum cyminum plant native to Asia, Europe and Africa. Cumin has been used for thousands of years as both medicinal and culinary purposes.

Cumin has anti-inflammatory anti-bacterial properties. Cumin is rich in antioxidant properties. Antioxidants help fight free radicals in the body and may help prevent the risk of chronic diseases.

Cumin is rich in iron with 20% of the recommended daily value in 1 teaspoon. Cumin is also a good source of calcium and vitamin A.

Cumin may help with digestive issues such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Studies have shown that participants with IBS who consumed cumin essential oil drops for 4 weeks had reduced stomach pain and bloating. It also showed those with constipation had more frequent bowel movements.
