Health Benefits of Resveratrol
Health Benefits of Resveratrol
Resveratrol is a plant compound derived from grapes, berries, dark chocolate, pomegranates, peanuts and wine that acts like an antioxidant. Resveratrol is present in more than 70 plant species but primarily in the skin and seeds of red grapes. Antioxidants help fight free radicals in the body and may help prevent the risk of chronic diseases.
Resveratrol has anti-inflammatory, anticancer, anti-diabetes, cardio-protective, and neuro-protective properties.
Resveratrol may help improve brain health. Resveratrol may help protect against memory loss and other symptoms of cognitive decline as well as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
Resveratrol may help relieve joint pain. Test tube studies and animal studies have shown that resveratrol may help reduce inflammation and prevent damage to joints. Other studies have shown that resveratrol reduced inflammation and joint pain in people with rheumatoid arthritis.
Resveratrol may have anti-tumor effects that may prevent cell growth from replicating and spreading and change gene expression in cancer cells to inhibit cell growth. Resveratrol may also boost the effectiveness of cancer treatment and reduce chemotherapy side effects.
Resveratrol may help reduce bad cholesterol levels and improve good cholesterol levels. Resveratrol may also help lower blood pressure levels by increasing the production of nitric oxide.
Resveratrol may also help prevent insulin resistance.
Resveratrol may promote skin health and may have anti-aging effects. Resveratrol may also protect against damage from UV (ultraviolet) radiation.
Resveratrol may have side effects including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, kidney and liver dysfunction.
Resveratrol may interact with certain medications such as blood thinners. You should avoid resveratrol if you have hormone sensitive conditions.
As always consult with your physician.
