What are adaptogens?

Adaptogens are herbs that help your body adapt to stress by supporting the production of stress-related neurotransmitters and hormones. Adaptogens help you feel less stress while increasing energy levels. Some adaptogens are zippy while others are more balancing and calming.

Adaptogens are relatively nontoxic and safe. Adaptogens are used when stress is the primary or underlying cause of the issue.  Most adaptogens support fertility, libido, reproductive function, longevity and overall vitality, mood and immune strength and modulation. Depending on the herb, some also calm, invigorate, decrease inflammation, improve digestion and circulation and protects the body from toxins.

Some examples of zippy adaptogens are ginseng species, codonopsis, and eleuthero. A few examples of balancing and calming adaptogens are reishi, holy basil and gotu kola.
